Your Basic Essential Oils Kit: Lemon, Peppermint & Lavender

FEATURING: Camille Carlson Gehrlich
Standard Enzyme Partner New’s Editor, and frequent contributor, Camille Carlson Gehrlich, investigates the incredible usefulness of SEC’s Essential Oils.

If you haven’t started your essential oil “survival kit” yet, now’s the time to start!

You must start to experience the amazing healing properties of these powerful plant extracts. These properties can be delivered via a variety of vehicles….via diffuser, topically or orally. This is what makes aromatherapy so great. The possibilities for application are endless.

As many of you know, I spend the better part of my time in South America. Here, these natural oils are routinely used for their medicinal properties and have been for centuries.

This month I have some great info for you on household and general health uses for these three ingestible, and topically applicable, wonders.

Our SEC catalog says that lavender oil is generally used to help relieve tension, calm irritated skin, and reduce muscle soreness, but this only scratches the surface.

Lavender is an anti-bacterial and antiseptic, which opens the door to a million possible uses.

Carpet Disinfectant Cleaner

  • 8 drops lavender oil
  • ½ c. baking soda

Sprinkle on carpet, let stand for a few minutes and vacuum.

Laundry Disinfectant

Add 3 drops to washing machine to disinfect and deodorize smelly laundry.

Air freshener

  • 15 drops of lavender oil
  • 10 drops of orange oil
  • 10 drops of lemon oil
  • 2 ounces of distilled water
  • 2 ounces’ alcohol

Mix in a spray bottle.

Neosporin Alternative

Rub lavender oil on cuts and scrapes mixed with fractionated coconut oil. It also is great for irritated or dry skin.

Lemon oil is typically used to reduce tension, improve cognitive ability, uplift mood, and help with irritated skin and muscle tension recovery. It is also a powerful antioxidant, and has great digestive benefits and cleansing properties.

Disinfectant Spray

  • 2 drops of lemon oil
  • 2 drops of lavender
  • 2 drops of peppermint
  • 1 drop of tea tree oil
  • 2 c. white vinegar

Spray on surfaces to disinfect (freshen old mattresses, remove odors from fabrics, cut bathroom odors, and clean cutting boards).

Stinky Shoe Refresher

  • 5 drops lemon
  • 5 drops lavender
  • 5 drops peppermint
  • ½ c. baking soda

Sprinkle in shoes and let sit. Shake out and/or wipe out when ready to use.

Shower Grout Cleaner

8 drops lemon oil with powdered soap.

Acne Fighter

3 drops lemon oil on a cotton ball, gently scrub skin before going to sleep.

Musinex Alternative

3 drops lemon oil in humidifier.

Chloroseptic Alternative

2 drops lemon oil in glass of water, gargle and swallow.

Pepto-Bismol Alternative

2 drops in a glass of water, swallow.

Children’s Tylenol Alternative

Rub 2 drops on temples.

Peppermint is well-known to help with digestive issues (indigestion, nausea, stomach upset). It is a natural alternative to anti-bloating drugs. A few drops in water before a meal works to relax the intestinal muscles which can help with spasms, bloating and gas.

It is also looked to in order to increase energy, focus and concentration. Because of its anti-inflammatory and anti-spasmodic properties, it is especially useful when it comes to soothing muscle pain. The same anti-spasmodic properties which help the colon can also help headaches by rubbing just a bit on your temples, forehead, sinus area, and the back of the neck. Something to always keep in mind when it comes to Peppermint is that it is one of the strongest of essential oils and must always be diluted.

  • 5 drops peppermint
  • 2 ounces of distilled water
  • 2 ounces’ alcohol

Mix ingreditents in a bottle.

Caffeine Alternative

Rub a bit of peppermint oil under your nose, the back of your neck and shoulders to improve alertness, focus and concentration.

Anti-Stress Treatment

  • 2 drops of peppermint oil
  • 2 drops of lavender oil
  • 2 drops of geranium oil

Add oils to a warm bath. Oils will help relieve stiffness, stress and exhaustion.

Irritated Skin

  • 2 drops peppermint oil
  • ½ c. fractionated coconut oil

Helps to calm skin inflammation, reduces redness and allergic reactions.

Eczema and Psoriasis Soother

  • 2 drops peppermint oil
  • 2 drops lavender oil
  • ½ c. fractionated coconut oil

Nasal Congestion Reliever

2 drops of peppermint oil in an essential oil diffuser can help to relieve sinusitis, asthma, bronchitis, the common cold and cough.

Alternatively, add eucalyptus and rosemary oils to the peppermint oil and boiling water placed in a bowl, drape a towel over your head and position face approximately 12 inches above the bowl and deeply breathe in the steam.

Cough Relief

Massage chest with 2-3 drops of peppermint and coconut (or other carrier oil) oil.

Lice & Dandruff Preventative

2-3 drops of peppermint oil in your shampoo every time you wash your hair.

Fever Reducer

Mix peppermint oil with coconut oil and massage into neck and bottoms of feet.

As you can see, you can get almost infinite benefits out of just these three little wonders. I would love to hear ways that YOU have used these oils as well. Let me know at

Introducing StoneBreaker

FEATURING: John Easterling
Rainforest Educator and SEC Quality Control Board Member, John Easterling, is interviewed by Camille Carlson Gehrlich, SEC’s Creative Liaison, about the newest Rainforest Blend.

Kidney stones affect about one in 11 Americans. Statistics show that 20% of men, and 10% of women, 60 years of age or older have had a history of kidney stones. The majority of us have had someone close to us go through the extremely painful experience of having them.

A new Rainforest Herb Formula, StoneBreaker, has just been released that will be a game changer for anyone dealing with this issue.

Enjoy my interview with Rainforest Educator, John Easterling, about this powerful little powerhouse.

Camille: StoneBreaker. The name is pretty descriptive in itself. I think we can imagine what this little powerhouse is designed to do. Can you confirm our suspicions?

John: This product is mostly a botanical known as quebra-piedra in Brazil, and chanca-piedra in Peru. “Chanca” is an old Quechua word that means to “shatter” or “break.” “Piedra” is Spanish for “stone.” So, the meaning is clear-StoneBreaker. It’s long been used to break stone and shatter calculi.

Chanca-piedra is a signature plant. When you look at this medicinally strong plant it is surprisingly small, even frail looking. It stands maybe 15-18 inches. It has tiny little leaves on it. Right where the leaves attach to the stem there is a little ball or BB. The whole plant is full of them. Its appearance suggests its usage. The plant is, in effect, saying “Hey, if you have stones, come over and look at me! I can help!” The plant prevalently grows along the sandy river banks. It’s harvested easily and the whole plant is ground up.

The plant goes back to Incan times but I learned about it from Nicole Maxwell, author of the “The Witchdoctor’s Apprentice: Searching for Medicinal Plants in the Amazon.” Back in the 90’s she talked about getting chanca-piedra to a Doctor Wolfram Wiemann in Nuremberg, Germany. He treated over a hundred people for kidney stones with chancapiedra. He found it to be 94% successful in eliminating stones within a week or two. My experience with it is even stronger. In the 27 years I’ve been using and recommending, it I’ve NEVER seen it fail. My experience is seeing a 100% success rate. It’s pretty powerful and it works fast! Right away, it starts breaking down the little stag horn calculi points that form on the stones that are so painful.

This issue of the extreme pain associated with stones makes chanca-piedra that much more valuable because it has notable pain relieving properties built right in. A Brazilian study was done which proved chanca-piedra was 7 times more potent as a pain reliever than aspirin. It inhibits certain neurotransmitter processes that relay and receive pain signals in the brain. Which means, unlike aspirin and other pain relievers like it, it doesn’t harm the mucosal lining of the stomach and cause ulcers. There is a chemical in chancapiedra, geraniin, that reportedly has antiulcer properties.

So, it’s ability to A) act as a pain reliever and B) start breaking the stone down right away, couple to make this a very powerful product. You can see fast results with this.

Camille: How fast?

John: A day or two. Usually within 24-48 hours you’re going to get a lot of relief. If someone has kidney stones, they need to get a bottle of this and get it fast. The security guard at my condo in Florida was doubled over in pain when I drove up one day and I set him up with chanca-piedra and he sent me a text just a bit ago identifying himself before he entered to do some work, “I’m the guy you saved with the Kidney Stones!”

Camille: He’ll never forget you! Let me ask you, do you need to take a lymphatic drainer with this?

John: There are complementary herbs already in the formula to facilitate drainage (like those in KLS-ENVIRO), and provide extra kidney and liver support. So here is my recommendation: If you have kidney stones go ahead and do 8-10 droppers in a glass of water 3 times a day for 3 days, then, 3 full droppers, 2 times a day for 3 days, finishing up with 1 full dropper, 2 times a day.

Preventively, we should do one bottle at least once a year. We all have those little grains of sand and calculi in the kidneys and liver ducts. Calculi builds up in the liver ducts and allows for virus’ to colonize. Chanca-piedra has a very strong anti-viral affect. So, in addition to working great to eliminate these grains of calculi, it is working against any latent viral agents in your system.

In a study done in India, 22 out of 37 chronic hepatitis B patients they treated with chanca- piedra tested clear for hepatitis B. The antigen didn’t even show up. This didn’t surprise me because I had personal experience with this. I had hepatitis B and used chanca-piedra. My old company was taking out a very large life insurance policy on me and they were dubious about taking me on because of my having had hepatitis B. Of course, there is a greater risk of liver cancer and other things. I was 55 at the time. They did a day and a half worth of tests on me and they called with two questions. #1-“We see your birthdate here but we think you may have made a mistake. Are you really 55?” And I said “Yeah, I’m pretty sure of that!” #2-“Are you sure you were diagnosed with hepatitis B? We see no trace of it.” So, chanca-piedra had not only gotten me well, but it had erased the antigen in my blood work! Another great testimonial for the anti-viral properties in chanca-piedra has to do with HIV. A study was done in Japan in which they identified a specific chemical. Chanca-piedra has a reverse transcriptase inhibition effect, meaning that it interferes with the virus’ ability to replicate. A group in Japan found that there was a certain repandusinic acid A in the chancapiedra that inhibits HIV 1 in 90% of cases.

Camille: Wow! That’s incredible!

John: I know! Later in Germany they published a study using just the chancapIedra (not isolating chemicals within it) and it showed a 70-75% inhibition of the HIV 1 virus in vitro. Most of us have latent virus’ in our bodies, so this StoneBreaker is a powerful ally. And, as we have stablished, if kidney stones are the issue, StoneBreaker is the solution! This formula is a super star!

My Incredible Cancer Journey

FEATURING: Elizabeth Ferro
Elizabeth is a client of Bremen Health Clinic who has benefitted greatly from using Standard Enzyme products during her outstandingly difficult cancer journey.

On February 2, 2015, I was diagnosed with PMP (Pseudomyxoma peritonei) Appendix Cancer. PMP is a rare condition characterized by the presence of mucin-producing tumors in the abdominal cavity. Cells from a mucinous tumor of the appendix leak into the abdominal cavity and implant on the peritoneum and other abdominal organs. These tumors replicate and produce a mucinous by-product that spreads throughout the abdomen. The chances of a PMP diagnosis are roughly 2 persons out of a million…and I had it.

I had no pain and no glaring physical symptoms. When I’d been checked for a bit of pain in my lower right abdomen, I was told it was either a lymph node or a hernia. I met with a surgeon to ease my mind and told him I wasn’t there for surgery (which still makes me laugh). I just wanted to know what it was. Through the course of our conversation I remembered a day, about 5 months prior, when I had waves of nausea and just didn’t feel great throughout the day. I did not realize at the time that these were symptoms of appendix cancer.

Cancer had never crossed my mind. I just didn’t feel well. I called the nurse back in and told her I’d like to include my abdomen as well as my pelvis in the scan. The surgeon told me that sometimes we go looking and end up finding something, so it’s better to investigate thoroughly. I replied to him that “maybe I would find something early, and it would save my life.” My words were just idle nervous chit chat. As far as I knew, I was healthy. I rarely got sick. I took care of my body. I ate clean, exercised, I didn’t drink, smoke, or do drugs, and I ate healthy (aside from my love of chocolate!). I really worked hard to stay heathy, and at the age of 42, I thought I was.

So, my journey began…I had an ultrasound that revealed nothing and then a CT scan, which identified ascites (fluid in my abdomen) and a thickening of my omentum. Both of these are indicative of ovarian cancer, which was originally suspected, but he could not find any tumors (appendix cancer is often misdiagnosed as ovarian cancer because of the similar symptoms and because it’s so rare). My tumor markers were elevated for colon cancer, but my endoscopy and colonoscopy were both clear. I also had biopsies that revealed nothing…how scary is that?

My surgeon was relentless, and I’m forever grateful. I call him my bird dog, because he was convinced I had a tumor producing the fluid. I was still convinced (and praying) he was wrong. He wanted to do exploratory surgery. I asked if could do an MRI beforehand. He agreed that this was a good idea. I knew this was the test that was going to provide answers, and I also knew that my God was with me. I experienced his reassurance and his help over and over throughout this journey.

On February 27, 2015, I had what is referred to as the mother of all surgeries (MOAS) in Pittsburgh, PA., which is far from my home in Macon, GA. After eleven hours of surgery, my appendix, spleen, gall bladder, ovaries, fallopian tubes, uterus, peritoneal lining, and omentum were all removed. In addition, 1/3 of my colon was removed and resected, part of my stomach was removed, my left diaphragm was scraped and reconstructed, and I had 17 lymph nodes removed. During surgery, I was treated with heated intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC), which is a chemo used to kill cancer cells not visible to the human eye. The HIPEC process involves filling the abdominal cavity with liquid chemo, heated to 104 degrees, for 90 minutes. A cooling pad is used to keep body temperatures normal. After the surgery, I had 40 staples on the incision, which runs from my sternum to pelvic bone, and over 500 stitches internally. While in the hospital, I had a drainage tubes in my nose to drain my stomach, as well as my chest, the appendix site, and my bladder. You can imagine the discomfort! I had an IV in my left arm and a direct line in my right arm and neck to measure my blood pressure. I was in ICU for five days, and in the hospital for a total of 25 days. I was a mess!

I had a congenital hernia in my groin (the original reason I went to the doctor) that had been trapping this mucinous material for years. I don’t know how long I had the cancer before finding out, but the type of appendix cancer I had is considered low grade and is slow growing. This hernia I was blessed with, should’ve closed-up automatically around the age of two, but instead it was there to save my life.

In February of 2016, on the one-year anniversary of my surgery, I was told the MRI revealed a small amount of fluid in the lower right pelvic area, and my surgeon was unsure, at this point, if it was still post-op fluid or residual disease (given my tumor markers were increasing). I had a similar place under my diaphragm that has completely gone away.

The next MRI of my abdomen and pelvic area in early March confirmed the recurrence, and systemic chemotherapy was the recommended treatment. I was terrified of getting chemo, and this led me to Bremen Health Clinic. I started there in April of 2016, and I’m still going…and will be going for a long time! I have been taking Capsol-T, Immu C, and KLS-Enviro since April of 2016. These are very important for me to be able to stay healthy.

I started the chemo infusions in June of 2016, and although I had unpleasant side effects, I didn’t have the terrible side effects my oncologist expected. He’s been amazed! He didn’t think I was going to be able to handle it. I know I have been able to handle it because of all the vitamins, minerals and therapies I have received at Bremen Health Clinic. I was given a protocol to follow, and I have made it my priority. I was using over 1,400 individual drops daily from the Standard Enzyme Company. I have had such peace of mind about the chemo because I know my care at the clinic is healing my entire body and helping it to fight the cancer, preparing me for another surgery in Pittsburgh, and helping me to fight the damage and side effects from the chemo. I would be terrified if I didn’t have these resources. It has certainly become a security blanket for me because I have experienced so many benefits and even some unexpected surprises. I’ve experienced a huge improvement in my allergies! I have been on an antihistamine and decongestant, as well as nasal spray, for over 20 years. I came off of the nasal spray immediately, and it is rare for me to need the antihistamine/decongestant. For years, I have struggled with getting fever blisters during stressful times. I have not had a fever blister since I started my care at the clinic…and I’ve certainly been in some stressful times. I sleep better than I have slept my entire adult life and my crazy hypoglycemia is under control.

I had my second mother of all surgeries with HIPEC in December of 2016. This was a ten-hour surgery in which they removed another 1/3 of my colon and 3 inches of my small intestines. They also removed scar tissue from my stomach and a small portion of my liver to verify there was no cancer (thankfully, there was not). They removed mucin material near my bladder and my diaphragm, along with 17 lymph nodes. I have a new scar that runs from sternum to pelvic bone. This time was different. I bounced back faster, and I know it’s because of the care I had been receiving at Bremen Health Clinic. My body was better prepared. I was in the hospital for 15 days, and I was able to fly home on my birthday. I was so excited to be going home. My heart ached being away from my son and my family.

I returned to Pittsburgh to have my ileostomy reversed on February 2, 2017. My surgery went well, my colon was alive and functioning the very next day, and I was feeling remarkable. On the day before I was to fly home, I noticed pain and a very faint pink color on my skin coming from under the bandages of my ileostomy incision. It was not good news, and I ended up with a very bad infection that kept me in the hospital a total of 8 days. This also meant I would have to return home with an open incision that had to be cleaned and packed twice a day. Thankful that it healed as quickly as it did without any further complications.

In March of 2017, I had my port removed due to a blood clot that had formed in my neck on the port line. It was so swollen I could not even turn my head. The surgeon at Emory was shocked that my port had no signs of bacteria, and there were no signs of any infection. I believe God gave me another miracle, and I know my care at the clinic helped me to avoid this infection. At the end of March, I started on a new chemo drug that I am scheduled to take for 6 months. It has been rough on my system, but it is much worse if I miss getting my weekly care at the clinic. I have missed two times, and I ended up in the hospital both times. Without a doubt, I believe my natural health care will play an integral role in my ability to become cancer free, and I wouldn’t want to fight this battle without it. For now, I will also continue to receive chemo, and I will be scanned every 3 months to make sure there is no new disease forming.

The last two years have been an incredible journey for me. I have experienced the worst of times and literally some of the best of times. I’ve met some wonderful, beautiful people. This journey has changed me immeasurably. It’s been the worst, best thing I’ve ever experienced. This doesn’t mean I don’t get upset; it means I try to stay focused on God’s promises and constantly pray to replace my fears with faith. I work hard to give my worries and cares to God.

This has anchored me to get through other trials since. My employer of 20 years did not renew my contract after I told them my cancer had returned and my marriage ended after my ileostomy reversal surgery. I think it’s safe to say the last couple of years have been difficult. But, I’m a fighter. I continue to walk with my head up and appreciate all of the help that I’ve been given and continue to receive.

Just the “Shift” We Need

Just the “Shift” We Need

Featureding John Easterling
This month John Easterling, Rainforest Educator and SEC Quality Control Board Member is interviewed by Camille Carlson Gehrlich, SEC Director of Publicity about the new herbal HER and HIS Rainforest Blends.

Camille: We’re really excited to have your expertise on these new products that have been rolled out: The Rainforest Blend HER and HIS Formulas. Who better to educate us on them then our resident Rainforest Educator!

I’m going to start by asking you why these formulas were developed.

John: Well, primarily this product was developed to support and tonify sexual hormonal balance particularly in aging men and women.

One of the big focuses here is the endocrine system which produces hormones.

A balanced and healthy hormonal system will help you to:

  • Prevent sexual problems
  • Deal with sexual problems
  • Increase physical stamina
  • Increase arousal
  • Increase interest in sexual activity
  • Help to balance out menopausal and andropausal symptoms
  • Help to curb depression/mood swings

The hormonal system consists of the hypothalamus, thyroid, adrenals, pituitary, pineal, testes and ovaries which are the major producers or estrogen, progesterone and testosterone. If the ovaries and testes aren’t doing their job, the adrenals, or one of the other endocrine organs, are called on to manufacture the needed hormones. With maturation, parts of the endocrine system may not be doing the stellar job they were once doing so other parts of the system are designed to kick in and help.

In this day and age, one of the endocrine system organs, the adrenals, are getting hammered significantly due to the stressful lifestyle that seems to be the norm today.

Camille: So how do these products address the adrenals?

John: Let me start by telling you about licorice. It is the #1 ingredient in both of these products and, you guessed it…it supports the adrenals.

You’ll find many of the same ingredients in both products because both males and females have testosterone, estrogen and progesterone in common. We just carry them in different percentages. That’s why we’re going to see similar ingredients in the formulas but they will be presenting themselves in different orders of concentrations to support a male/female. Neither of these formulas provide hormones, they just support the hormone producing organs.

Camille: Great, so we’re supporting our adrenals with these products. We need that! What other benefits are we deriving from them?

John: Let me briefly tell you about the rest of the ingredients in these products. The benefits are amazing. Damiana, for example, is known by its botanical name “turnera aphrodisiaca.” It’s long been used in Mexico, and southern South American countries as an aphrodisiac especially in females.

One of the greatest things about damiana is that it has a high degree of volatile oils and terpenes. If you take the damiana leaf and crush it in your hand and smell it, it is so pungent with kind of a minty spiciness about it. As an alcohol extract, this really helps with circulation which is one of the major issues with men and women and sexual function. To put it simply, we want to have circulation where we need it.

Another benefit is mood. In Germany, it’s interesting that they used damiana to reduce excess mental activity and support nervous system function. This translates into supporting female desire and interest in sexual activity.

Incidentally, the studies also showed how effective it is for menstrual irregularities, depression, weight gain and many of the other things that come up as we age.

Muira puama which is the primary ingredient in HIS Formula and the 3rd ingredient in HER Formula is also a great source for these circulatory benefits due to its oil and terpene makeup. It is a hard wood stem and when you break it you will experience a great rush of oil terpenes. This is potent wood. No pun intended. Jacques Waynberg, at the French institute of Sex, found that men with erectile dysfunction who used the muira puama had better results (more interest and ability) than the men who used the most popular ED drug at that time.

Muira puama is also used for men and women in Brazil to support the nervous system and is used as a botanical tonic to tonify the body and support the endocrine system. So, it generally supports our mood and our sexual function. Let’s face it, we need to maintain our interest in sex. It’s part of our identity.

In Brazil, one of the most famous combos for sexual function is a combination of muira puama and catuaba which both the HIS and HER Formulas contain. Referring to the afore mentioned study, researchers concluded that muira puama was very effective among 262 males who were experiencing erectile dysfunction or lack of desire. They were given 1 1/2 grams of muira puama daily and, in the final report, the researchers indicated libido
enhancement in 85% of the test group, an increase of frequency of intercourse by 100%, and improvement in the ability to maintain an erection in 90%. So, this is potent and effective stuff! I think it’s important to also note that this formula can be used long term without increasing blood pressure while still increasing micro-circulation.

Catuaba is the 3rd ingredient in HER Formula and the 4th in HIS Formula. Research has shown that catuaba is great for exhaustion, insomnia and fatigue. While studying this herb, researchers found that participants began to have more erotic dreams which is …well, nice. We know how important the mind is when it

From Kidney Transplant List to Clean Bill of Health

From Kidney Transplant List to Clean Bill of Health

“A client came to me crying. He had just been to this doctor who told him he had put him on the kidney transplant list for both kidneys. He was now in his fifties and did not feel like he had a good chance at getting two kidneys at all.

When checking on the low function of his kidneys in his EDS screening it went right to “chemical,” and then to “creosote.” I asked what he did for a living and if he had been exposed to creosote. He said he put new switch boxes on the railroad tracks. Yes, on a hot day he could smell the fumes of creosote from the railroad ties. The screening suggested one product, Cat’s Claw.

In two weeks he came back with a grin on his face. The doctor had given him a clean bill of health on both kidneys! I asked if he told his doctor what he had done to get them healthy and he said he hadn’t. The doctor was absolutely mystified but he knew that he would not understand.

Then, he wanted more Cat’s Claw. I told him he didn’t need it and he said that after this scare he was going to take it for the rest of his life.”

FEATURING: James J Hawver
James Hawver is a Naturopath, trained at the First National University of Naturopathy in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He is also the Owner and President of Standard Enzyme Company and Bremen Health Clinic. His passion for natural health care education and research has also motivated Hawver to co-found the Association of Natural Health.

In his long career he has consistently been a natural health innovator, inventor and sought after educator. In this month’s cover article, he reminds EDS Screening Technicians what makes them so special and so unique.

In order to be effective with our patients, we have to have a clear vision, in our own minds, of what makes us different and special. You’ve probably had the same experience I’ve had with clients. They come in, see our technology in action, and say “Now I understand why I haven’t felt well all these years. This makes so much sense to me.” Why? Because it’s logical and people can sense they’ve stumbled onto something big.

Even though our services are not often paid by insurance companies, why are patients willing to go this route? The answer is: They can see a beginning and an end. They can clearly see what they need to do to establish wellness. This is what makes us different. We know what it takes to help people get truly well.

In order to help our clients to “get” what we’re doing, we have to become something of a teacher. If they don’t understand, or “get” what you’re doing, they probably won’t be 100% committed to it either. The good thing is, the opposite is also true. During your client’s next screening, share with them that their afternoon tiredness may have a lot to do with their adrenals, and explain why. Introduce the concept of the unhealthy pancreas and its relation to their blood sugar. Help them to see the connection between that and the reason they don’t feel so well. If we take the time to give them these pearls (and that’s what they are) of wisdom, they will be more apt to take responsibility for their own health.

It’s unlikely they’ve experienced anything like this in the mainstream medical community which does not want their patients to take responsibility for their own health. They say “No, that’s okay, I’ll handle that for you”…or “Try this pill and if it doesn’t work, come back, and we’ll try something else.” The truth is…the health system today is not designed to get people well. There is money to be made in never getting to the cause of a health problem. That’s what it boils down to. That’s where we’re at. There is more money in relieving symptoms, or in selling the proverbial “band-aid.”

This is where we are unique. We find the causes, and eliminate them, so our client’s symptoms disappear. To illustrate my point: if a tire has a slow leak, you don’t just fill it with more air and hope for the best. You pull the nail out of the tire, patch the hole thoroughly, and then fill the tire with air. Once clients are aware that such care is available and how good they can feel, they flock to us. Let’s face it, most just keep going and filling their tire with air because they don’t know they have a choice. We’re presenting them with a fresh solution. People are frustrated with being over drugged, cut, burnt and poisoned. They know, in their gut, there has to be a better solution.

We as EDS Technicians, can peek into the body and see where illness is starting-what its cause is. We have a chance to be a part of a profession that makes us grateful to be a part of it. We can sleep well at night knowing we’re helping people genuinely get better.

The Vital Software we are using is also exceptional. Did you know that many other kinds of similar software are simply designed to sell product? That doesn’t make them much different than the standard medical track (i.e. give them a pill). Some of these systems don’t actually have the capability of getting to the root causes of illness. Our technology is much more effective. We are addressing the whole person and seeing where their actual problems are originating. Most of you who have heard me speak have heard me mention the founder of applied Kinesiology, U.S. Chiropractor, Dr. George Goodheart. He was one of my biggest champions and mentors. He really helped me to appreciate the importance of finding the cause. He drilled it into me to check the organs and systems to see which ones were specifically affecting health issues. He would be so excited to see what we understand now-that there are toxins in the body that affect the organs which prevent them from getting well and sustaining wellness.

Doctor Goodhart wrote an article based on M.D. Louis Rubel’s research on the body’s need for hydrochloric acid. He linked that lack with many of the symptoms people experience such as gas, bloating, arthritis, and stiffness. They were onto something, but I couldn’t help thinking that there was more. My question to George was- “I understand that many people need more hydrochloric acid, especially when they age, but why? Why does their body stop producing enough?” His thought was that the problem just came with age.

My own investigation took me to the research of a certain doctor, Robert Greenberg, who had developed Biological Terrain Assessment technology. He said that when we are under stress there is a domino effect within the body. He filled in the blanks for me. From the work I was doing I could see that people did indeed “dump” minerals after trauma. He explained that so many people are low in potassium and that it causes a lack of hydrochloric acid production in the stomach. The chief and parietal cells, when under stress, don’t secrete the needed amount of hydrochloric acid. This in turn, doesn’t allow for proper absorption of food, which causes symptoms such as gas, bloating, etc.

Where does all this lead? It leads back to stress. Stress is the starting domino of illness. There is usually a divorce, bankruptcy, death in the family, or similar stressor that acts as a catalyst six months to a year before a diagnosis.

Knowing this simple concept allows you to make a difference. Be fully conscious of the fact that you are unique and valuable to every client that walks in the door…getting to the root causes of each and every one of their health concerns.
